During this pandemic, we want to be making sure of a few things, but most importantly, that we’re staying indoors and keeping as safe as possible! But another thing that we also want to make sure of, is that we’re taking as much care of our hair as possible during this time.
Below are some of our top tips on low maintenance protective styles you could easily wear at home:
Braids:
Braid your hair. It doesn’t have to be the Poetic Justice braids that Janet Jackson rocked so effortlessly in the 90s; it could be braids that you do yourself, and it doesn’t have to look salon done either. The purpose of this style whilst in quarantine is to give yourself a break from doing your hair, and to give your hair a break from always being manipulated and styled.
Twists:
Twists are a good option also as it is often claimed to be easier to do than braids, and offers the same benefit as braids, that being, a low maintenance style that is easy to retain in moisture and length, due to it being a low manipulation style.
Leaving your hair out:
If twisting and braiding your hair isn’t really your thing, then why not just leave your hair out to do its own thang?! Keeping your hair moisturised and nourished and letting your hair breathe by leaving it out whilst in the house, can feel liberating for you and your hair, as it’ll give you a break from styling and give your hair the chance to feel free. But do keep in mind that if you do this style, you ought to keep your hair well hydrated throughout the day in order to avoid it getting dry.
Bun fun:
Hair buns; classic and stylish, but most importantly, protective and low maintenance! With the help of a product such as gel, you can easily slick back your hair into a neat bun, giving you a sophisticated look whilst ensuring that any fly away hair strands are kept at bay.
Top tip: Do not tie your bun too tight, as that would defeat the point of this low maintenance style if you have to readjust it every 5 minutes!
Cornrows:
This popular look can be kept in for weeks or even up to a month+ and still look good. Typically, you’d only have to ensure that your ends, baby hairs, and scalp are moisturised. Taking the time out every day or every other day to ensure your hair isn’t dry, is not a time consuming task, thankfully.
French plaits:
This cute look is generally easy to do, but if you struggle with it, that’s perfectly fine, because when there’s a will, there’s a way! And there’s also YouTube. YouTube has a range of videos on how to french plait your hair in different ways. This style is popular not only for its appearance, but also because of how easy it is to do once you know how to do it. It pulls back your hair, ensuring fly always are out the way, making this a secure style that can stay in place for a number of days.
These are just a handful of easy styles you could wear around the house. Choose which style to flaunt, and follow our top tips because remember, both you and your hair deserve a break and some TLC from time to time!
Stay safe, look after your hair, and most importantly, stay indoors!
